Preview: Hunt Warriors vs. South Johnston Trojans
Hunt is 4-0 against South Johnston since January of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Hunt Warriors will look to defend their home court against the South Johnston Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hunt waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Southern Wayne 62-30 at home. With Hunt ahead 37-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
It was another big night for Ti'asia Taylor, who scored 26 points along with six rebounds and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aiyana Harrison, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, South Johnston escaped with a win on Thursday against C.B. Aycock by the margin of a single free throw, 48-47.
South Johnston's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Grey Thornton, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thornton has scored all season. Lannah Price was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Hunt's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for South Johnston, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-7.
Everything came up roses for Hunt against South Johnston in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 55-26 win. Does Hunt have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Johnston turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
