Football Recap: Weeki Wachee Extends Home Winning Streak to Five + How To Watch

The Weeki Wachee Hornets beat the Lake Placid Dragons 50-41 on Friday. The Hornets pushed the score to 43-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Dragons cut but never quite recovered from.

Leelen Wright had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry, and also caught one score. Richard Hanshaw was another key player, rushing for 31 yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Weeki Wachee was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 334 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

When it comes to explaining why Lake Placid lost, don't look at August Stivender. Despite the final result, he threw for 138 yards and five touchdowns. Damarcus Brown helped Stivender out on the ground, rushing for 139 yards while picking up 8.2 yards per carry.

Weeki Wachee's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Looking ahead, Weeki Wachee will face off against Tenoroc at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Placid, they will square off against Discovery at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Dragons their first taste of in-conference action this season.
