Basketball Game Preview: Whitmire Wolverines vs. McCormick Chiefs

Whitmire is 0-10 against McCormick since February of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Whitmire Wolverines will challenge the McCormick Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. Whitmire has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

On Tuesday, Whitmire was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 35-29 to Thornwell.

Despite the loss, Whitmire saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brooklynn Babb posted 12 points and three steals. That was a full 41.4% of Whitmire's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brantlee Roche, who had six points.

Meanwhile, McCormick had to suffer through a 53-18 loss at the hands of Fox Creek. The defeat continues a trend for the Chiefs in their matchups with the Predators: they've now lost three in a row.

Whitmire's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for McCormick, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Whitmire was dealt a bruising 56-26 loss at the hands of McCormick in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Whitmire was down 32-9.
