Baseball Recap: Wheatmore Comes Up Short

Wheatmore extended their losing streak to ten on Friday, dropping them down to 2-16. They lost 10-0 to the Providence Grove Patriots. Considering the last time the Warriors couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Providence Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

For Providence Grove's part, Andrew Thomas made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Thomas also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Providence Grove is 5-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Thomas was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He is on a roll when it comes to hits, as he's now got three or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Conner Haithcock was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Collins, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Wheatmore is set to square off against their familiar foe Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Providence Grove will challenge rival Thomasville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
