Softball Recap: Apache Junction Prospectors vs. Florence Gophers
Apache Junction extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They came up short against the Florence Gophers, falling 19-4. The Prospectors were not able to make up for their defeat to the Gophers from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.
Lilly Mendoza made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
As for Florence, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-5 record. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
On Florence's side, Kamie Rice made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Rice has posted since back in April of 2025. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those RBI were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Brea Cortinas was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. D'Glayne Giberti was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
