Softball Game Preview: Grand Prairie Gophers vs. Martin Warriors

Grand Prairie hasn't had much luck against Martin recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Grand Prairie will face off against Martin at 6:00 p.m. Grand Prairie has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Grand Prairie had taken Bowie down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. Grand Prairie lost 29-19 to Bowie. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (15), the Gophers still had to take the loss.

Stella Benitez-Mendez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring four runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Lylly Sanchez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Even though they lost, Grand Prairie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Martin). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Lamar a 25-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Grand Prairie's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Martin, the victory got them back to even at 8-8-1.

Grand Prairie might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Martin in their previous matchup on March 7th. Can Grand Prairie avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
