Basketball Preview: Collinwood Trojans vs. Wayne County Wildcats

Collinwood is 2-8 against the Wildcats since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Collinwood Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wayne County Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Collinwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 400th, while the Wildcats are ranked 164th).

Collinwood's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 50-36 bruising from Hughes. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Collinwood has scored all season.

Even though Wayne County has not done well against the Vikings recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Wayne County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 victory over the Vikings. The win made it back-to-back wins for Wayne County.

Wayne County found their leader in underclassman Cayman Camfield, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Camfield has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last six times he's played. Justice Bell was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Collinwood's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Wayne County, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.

Things could have been worse for Collinwood, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 71-57 loss to the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Collinwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
