Basketball Game Preview: Lawrence-Nelson Raiders vs. Silver Lake Mustangs

Lawrence-Nelson and Silver Lake are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders are taking a road trip to take on the Silver Lake Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lawrence-Nelson is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Last Tuesday, Lawrence-Nelson didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Red Cloud, but they still walked away with a 56-52 victory.

Lawrence-Nelson's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Wyatt Frey, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 15 boards, and Aidan Zikmund, who posted seven points along with six assists and six rebounds. Frey has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 14 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Cox, who scored eight points and five boards.

Lawrence-Nelson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Silver Lake, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Meridian with a sharp 52-29 win on Tuesday. Silver Lake hasn't had any issues with Meridian recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Silver Lake's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.3 points. As for Lawrence-Nelson, their record is now 15-7.

Lawrence-Nelson lost to Silver Lake on the road by a decisive 45-28 margin in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Silver Lake's Paxton Sorensen, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.
