Baseball Recap: Desert Mountain Victorious

Desert Mountain had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 15-9 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs 2-1. For the Wolves, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 win the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2025.

Desert Mountain got a great performance from Grant Garduno as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Garduno has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Desert Mountain's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Everett Hagen, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Sunrise Mountain, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-8. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

On Sunrise Mountain's side, Ethan Dinnell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up nine Ks.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Mountain will take on Campo Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sunrise Mountain, they will face off against Kellis at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.4 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
