Volleyball Recap: Hialeah Educational Academy Comes Up Short

Hialeah Educational Academy was the 3-0 winner over Somerset Academy when they last played one another back in April of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Hialeah Educational Academy took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Somerset Academy on Wednesday. While the Biggie didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 25-18 in the first set.

Hialeah Educational Academy started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-23.

Their offense was headlined by Leydaniel Lemus and Fabian Menendez, who picked up four kills apiece. They were helped by Kenny Beltran and Yan Roberto Barcelo, who contributed nine assists each. Lemus and Barcelo didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with two apiece.

Somerset Academy was led to victory by Daniel Bayona and Adriel Perez. Bayona had six aces, while Perez had four aces. Those four aces gave Perez a new career-high.

Hialeah Educational Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. The win snapped Somerset Academy's losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 2-5 record.

Hialeah Educational Academy and Somerset Academy will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time Hialeah Educational Academy sees the court they'll take on Mater Academy Charter at 5:00 p.m. on April 2. As for Somerset Academy, their break will end when they face North Broward Prep at 4:00 p.m. on April 1.
