Basketball Recap: DeSoto County Takes a Loss

DeSoto County lost against Booker two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The DeSoto County Bulldogs were beaten by the Booker Tornadoes 60-32. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-12.

DeSoto County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cherish Wiggins, who posted 13 points and eight boards. Wiggins is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Yahri Tyler, who put up seven points along with eight boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, DeSoto County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Marayah Stuart had a dynamite game for Booker, going 6 for 11 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. Those 17 points gave Stuart a new career-high. Brianna Behn was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

DeSoto County's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Booker, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

DeSoto County will head out to take on Sebring at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. DeSoto County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season. As for Booker, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-54 loss against Bloomingdale on the 17th.
