Softball Recap: Crane Comes Up Short

Crane had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 10-9-2 to make it four. They fell just short of the Marionville Comets by a score of 4-2. The Pirates were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Comets' pitcher proved too tough.

Raegan Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Graclin Ramey made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Peyton Cutbirth, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Marionville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-15 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch.

On Marionville's side, Caysen Crumpley made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Crumpley a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Addison Packwood was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Avigayil Bellah was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Crane will square off against Fordland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Marionville, they will challenge Hurley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
