Softball Recap: Willard Crimson Flashes vs. Port Clinton Redskins
Willard had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it four. They came up short against the Port Clinton Redskins, falling 20-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-5 last Monday.
Willard saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklynn Irvine, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
As for Port Clinton, the victory got them back to even at 9-9. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
On Port Clinton's side, Ashton Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Sanchez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Port Clinton got a massive performance out of Jae Mazur, who went 3-for-4 with five runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Mazur a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Howard, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Willard will square off against Huron at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Crimson Flashes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Port Clinton, they will take on Northwood at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
