Basketball Recap: Estancia Comes Up Short

Estancia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They fell 72-63 to the Tucumcari Rattlers. The Bears were probably out for revenge after losing 65-60 to them when the teams met back in January of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Estancia lost, don't look at Justin Rubio. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 34 points and nine rebounds. With that strong performance, Rubio is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game. Daniel Hernandez was another key player, putting up ten points and seven boards.

Estancia's record now sits at 5-14. As for Tucumcari, their win ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-12.

Estancia has already played their next matchup (against Santa Rosa), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Tucumcari will host Raton at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tucumcari knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Raton likes a good challenge.
