Preview: Trinity Tigers vs. Shepherd Pirates
The Trinity Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Shepherd Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Wednesday, Trinity was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-42 to Crockett. Trinity has struggled against Crockett recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Shepherd's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 63-45 bruising from Coldspring-Oakhurst.
Shepherd's defeat came about despite a quality game from Payton Burton, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Tristen Cullum, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Trinity has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. As for Shepherd, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-12.
Trinity was dealt a bruising 85-43 defeat at the hands of Shepherd in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Trinity, Jesse Valerie (who almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
