Basketball Recap: Brooke Sell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gibbon over Overton

Gibbon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 54-41 to the Overton Eagles. The Buffaloes lost against the Eagles in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 60-3 score last time.

Gibbon lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brooke Sell, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Kassandra Trevino was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Overton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyla Elfgren led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 14 boards. Elfgren is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Daisy Ryan, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Gibbon's record is now 0-3. As for Overton, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Gibbon will square off against Arcadia/Loup City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Overton, they will take on Axtell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Overton is facing Axtell at the right time seeing as Axtell is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
