Softball Game Preview: Westside Rams vs. Southside Tigers

Westside has gone a perfect 3-0 against Southside recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Rams will welcome the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Westside's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Southside has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Westside came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against T.L. Hanna, falling 12-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Rams, who until this game were averaging 3.65 runs allowed.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southside). They skirted past Brashier Middle College Charter 20-19. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Melissa Martinez was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Honesti McKinney was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Southside's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Westside, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.

Southside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Westside has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Southside, though, as they've been averaging 13.6 hits. Given Westside's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.

Westside got the 'W' in their previous matchup on Tuesday against Southside by a conclusive 42-0 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
