Baseball Recap: Esparto Comes Up Short

Esparto came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 21-7 to the Leroy Greene Academy Lions. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Esparto saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Montesinos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Montesinos is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another was Landon Yanez, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Esparto's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Leroy Greene Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Esparto will host Delta at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 12.9 runs per game this season. As for Leroy Greene Academy, they will challenge Elite at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The unknown have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.56 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
