Baseball Recap: Providence Gets the Win

Providence had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 9-5 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over the Seymour Owls. That's more bragging rights for the Pioneers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The result came thanks to Gavin Jackson's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for Seymour, they moved to 13-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Seymour's side, Brady Harpe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits.

At the plate, Seymour saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Thompson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Providence will venture away from home to take on Corydon Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Seymour, they will host Jennings County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
