Basketball Recap: Philip Simmons Continues Road Dominance on Saturday

Philip Simmons won against Cathedral Academy on Friday with 55 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. The Iron Horses snuck past the Charleston Math & Science Riptide with a 55-51 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Iron Horses, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jack Mevold was nothing short of spectacular: he went 8-for-16 to rack up 23 points and eight rebounds. Those 23 points gave him a new career-high. Gavin Johnson was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Despite the loss, Charleston Math & Science still got an impressive performance from Zion King, who posted 25 points and three steals. King is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 26 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Haasawn Todd, who had 11 points and four steals.

Philip Simmons pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points over those games. As for Charleston Math & Science, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Philip Simmons wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-52 win against Wando on the 3rd. As for Charleston Math & Science, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-57 victory against Colleton County on the 26th.
