Baseball Game Preview: Avalon Eagles vs. LaPoynor Flyers

The Avalon Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the LaPoynor Flyers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Avalon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Avalon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Non Varsity Opponent, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Avalon was the clear victors by a 19-8 margin over Non Varsity Opponent on Monday. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jackson Osbourn looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Josh Novak was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Avalon: the team is 2-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was John De La Garza, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles.

Avalon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, LaPoynor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Frankston. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 14, 2023, but that streak is no more.

LaPoynor saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colt Rogers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

LaPoynor's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Avalon, they now have a winning record of 4-3-1.
