Basketball Game Preview: Thornton Trojans vs. Aurora Central Trojans

Thornton hasn't had much luck against Aurora Central recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Thornton Trojans will welcome the Aurora Central Trojans at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Tuesday, Thornton beat Gateway 66-55. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Aurora Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They secured a 60-55 W over Adams City. The victory was familiar territory for the Trojans who have now won three matchups in a row.

Aurora Central's win came from a few key players Thornton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Christ Tah, who went 10 of 13 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alejandro (Alex) Flores, who posted ten points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Aurora Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Adams City only racked up nine assists.

Aurora Central has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Thornton, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Thornton was able to grind out a solid victory over Aurora Central when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 72-65. Will Thornton repeat their success, or does Aurora Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
