Softball Game Preview: Cheverus Stags vs. Noble Knights

The Cheverus Stags will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Noble Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Noble will be up against a hot Cheverus squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. The Stags blew past Scarborough 19-2 on Monday.

Addison DeRoche made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. DeRoche was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Lamontagne, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Cheverus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Scarborough only posted an OBP of .241.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Noble and Falmouth, and Noble kept the tradition alive. The Knights skirted past the Navigators 11-10. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Navigators: they've now won six in a row.

Noble now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Cheverus, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Cheverus took their win against Noble when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-0 score. Do the Stags have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
