Volleyball Preview: Westlake Thunder vs. Skyridge Falcons

Westlake is 0-10 against Skyridge since October of 2020 but things could change on Wednesday. The Thunder will face off against the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Westlake is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Cedar Valley. The win was some much needed relief for the Thunder as it spelled an end to their ten-match losing streak.

Westlake was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (106-103), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10.

Westlake found their leader in freshman Abbi Wood, who had 15 digs and two aces. Those 15 digs set a new season-high mark for Wood. Another player making a difference was Leiema Fano, who had five digs and two aces.

Skyridge took Skyline into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-21, 25-10, 23-25, 15-8.

Westlake's win bumped their record up to 5-21. As for Skyridge, their victory bumped their record up to 24-2.
