Basketball Recap: Olathe Comes Up Short

Olathe played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 75-52 to the Grand Valley Cardinals. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-54 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Olathe lost, don't look at Isaiah Gordon. Despite the final result, he posted 19 points and six boards. That was a full 36.5% of Olathe's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Almanza, who put up four points and seven rebounds.

Daniel Gronewoller continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Grand Valley, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave Gronewoller a new career-high in points. Sawyer Ostermiller also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Olathe's defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 7-8. As for Grand Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-9.

Olathe is taking a road trip to face off against Telluride at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Olathe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season. As for Grand Valley, they will welcome Rifle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grand Valley is facing Rifle at the right time seeing as Rifle is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
