Baseball Game Preview: Beech Buccaneers vs. Siegel Stars

The Beech Buccaneers will head out to challenge the Siegel Stars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Beech has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Last Friday, Beech had just enough and edged out Independence 9-8.

Cooper McCandless looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Kaden Powell and Cade Philpot did most of the damage at the plate: Powell scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Philpot scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Philpot a new career-high. Jack Douglass was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Beech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Siegel made easy work of Mount Juliet on Saturday and carried off a 9-2 win.

Siegel pushed their record up to 19-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Beech, their record is now 16-10.

Beech suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Siegel in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
