The Berwick Bulldogs will face off against the Wyoming Area Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Berwick has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Friday just wasn't the day for Berwick's offense. They lost 16-0 to Dallas on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Area got the win against Greater Nanticoke Area on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-3. Considering the Warriors have won five contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alexa Gasek made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Addison Gaylord was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and two RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Allison Layland was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Wyoming Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Wyoming Area pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Berwick, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Berwick hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Wyoming Area struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
