Marlington starts season with win at home

Recap: Marlington Dukes vs. Waynedale Golden Bears

Marlington gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They came out on top against the Waynedale Golden Bears by a score of 5-2. For Marlington, this counts as revenge for the 8-2 loss Waynedale walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.

Drew Simmons looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Sam Yoder picked up the save, pitching three innings while giving up no earned run off three hits (he also didn't allow any walks).

On the hitting side, Marlington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Heatherington, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Marlington will head out on the road to challenge GlenOak at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Waynedale, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northwestern at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
