Softball Recap: Martinsburg Takes a Loss

Martinsburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 9-4 to the Mountain Ridge Miners. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Miners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 back in March.

Olivia Mullin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Martinsburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tianna Sanabria, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Martinsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Mountain Ridge, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Martinsburg will head out to take on Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mountain Ridge, they will venture away from home to square off against Hampshire at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Miners are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
