Softball Recap: Whitwell Tigers vs. South Pittsburg Pirates

Whitwell extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Pittsburg Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 back in April.

Jasie Willis put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over 11 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Willis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Ella Grace Harvey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ella Layne was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

As for South Pittsburg, they now have a winning record of 10-9. Winning may never get old, but they sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Like Whitwell, South Pittsburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaylee Kilgore. She struck out 22 batters over 12 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 22 strikeouts gave Kilgore a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Macy Mashburn was excellent, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs and one double. Adelyn McLemore also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As of now, neither Whitwell nor South Pittsburg have any future games scheduled.
