Baseball Recap: Liberty's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Liberty dropped their record down to 13-10 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Pittsfield Saukees, falling 18-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Jack Sparrow put in work no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. Sparrow was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other pitching news, Liberty got a good showing from Jack Wietholder, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, Evan Sims was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Layne Bent, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

As for Pittsfield, their win bumped their record up to 18-10. The result was nothing new for the Saukees, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Pittsfield's side, Luke Saxe was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Kaden Ferguson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Coming up, Liberty will take on Hamilton/Warsaw at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pittsfield, they will welcome North Greene at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
