Baseball Recap: Hopewell Vikings vs. Blackhawk Cougars
Hopewell extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-13 in the process. They lost 10-4 to the Blackhawk Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 on Monday.
Hopewell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charles Smetana, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
As for Blackhawk, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.
On Blackhawk's side, they got a great performance from Aiden Gill as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Gill posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Logan Elich was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Connor Welsh also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Coming up, Hopewell will take on West Allegheny at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Blackhawk, they have already played their next contest, an 8-3 defeat against Montour on the 8th.
