Baseball Recap: Cherry's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Cherry waltzed into their contest on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They blew past the Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin Raiders 11-2. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jack Michels spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits.

On the hitting side, Cherry let Noah Asuma and Mason Heitzman run wild. Asuma went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Heitzman went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Asuma is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Asuma, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Cherry's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cherry will square off against Hibbing at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin, they will head out to square off against Mountain Iron-Buhl at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
