Basketball Game Preview: Howard Tigers vs. Irene/Wakonda Eagles

The Howard Tigers just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Irene/Wakonda Eagles at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Howard took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 49-37 win over Oldham-Ramona/R.

Irene/Wakonda played in conference for the first time on Thursday and they got just the result they we're looking for. Everything went their way against Freeman Academy/Marion as Irene/Wakonda made off with a 46-24 victory. The contest marked the Eagles' most dominant win of the season.

Howard's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-13. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Irene/Wakonda, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10.

Howard strolled past Irene/Wakonda when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 59-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Howard since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
