Softball Recap: Marshall Takes a Loss

If Marshall was riding high fresh off their 9-0 takedown of Lawrenceville on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lions fell just short of the Charleston Trojans by a score of 10-9 on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 6-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Lynn Welborn and Avery Cornwell did some serious damage despite the final result: Welborn went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Cornwell went 1-for-4 with one home run. Welborn has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren English, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Marshall's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Charleston, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marshall will square off against Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions are facing the Wooden Shoes at the right time seeing as the Wooden Shoes are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Charleston, they will face off against Robinson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Maroons have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
