Baseball Recap: Ritchie County Comes Up Short

Ritchie County had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 2-26 to make it 17. They came up short against the Sissonville Indians, falling 9-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 back in April.

As for Sissonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

For Sissonville's part, the team relied heavily on Layne Coffman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Coffman's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Deacon Moore, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Ritchie County will take on Fairmont Senior at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Polar Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.92 runs per game on average), something the Rebels will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sissonville, they will square off against Webster County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
