Softball Recap: Lake Zurich Has No Trouble Against Zion-Benton

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Carmel, Lake Zurich was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Everything went their way against the Zion-Benton Zee-Bees as they made off with a 12-3 win. Considering the Bears have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Izzy Vodicka was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kelly Selzer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Lake Zurich was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Lake Zurich's victory bumped their record up to 12-14-1. As for Zion-Benton, they dropped their record down to 7-11-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Lake Zurich and Zion-Benton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Bears will challenge Mundelein at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (206 vs. 85). Meanwhile, Zion-Benton (ranked 294th) will meet Libertyville (ranked 82nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
