Football Recap: St. James Saints vs. St. John's Catholic Prep Vikings
St. James took care of business in their home opener on Saturday (barely). They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the St. John's Catholic Prep Vikings 41-38. That's more bragging rights for the Saints, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. James to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samuel Stonebraker, who rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns.
St. James' defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of William Taffe and Liam Hall. Hall's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing two fumbles and making eight total tackles (1.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. All came courtesy of Jorge Diaz Nicolas: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 2-for-2 kicking extra points for an additional two.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. James will square off against Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, they will challenge Potomac School at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
