Atascocita had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Lamar Texans 48-28 on Friday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Texans are ranked 88th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lamar's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cade Mansour, who threw for 179 yards and three TDs. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Deverick Stone-Hubbard, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Atascocita will square off against Katy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lamar, they will face off against Summer Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
