The Martin County Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Jensen Beach Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Martin County has three straight wins, Jensen Beach has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Wednesday, Martin County got the win against Treasure Coast by a conclusive 12-6. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Cooper Proctor looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kamai Purce, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of John Thornton, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Martin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Jensen Beach's offense. They fell 4-0 to American Heritage on Wednesday.
Peyton Baum was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Martin County pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Jensen Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.
Martin County's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Jensen Beach, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Martin County continue to outrun the ball?
Martin County couldn't quite get it done against Jensen Beach in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
