Game recap

Sunrise Mountain (Peoria, Ariz.) saw its 23-point lead dwindle to 10, but still managed to hang on and beat Peoria (Ariz.) 40-30 on Saturday.

The Mustangs were up 26-10 at the half after taking the lead on a Neiman Sneed touchdown pass to Marcus Coffey in the second quarter.

Sunrise Mountain saw its 16-point halftime lead fall to nine entering the fourth.

The Panthers' Ira Rojas played well. The senior ran for three touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 10 on the year.

Elijah Castro was the top performer for SM. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.

The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Peoria took, 55-34.

The loss comes after Peoria defeated Glendale 49-14 last week. The win was a nice bounce back for the Mustangs, which lost to Liberty last week, 56-28.

In a non-conference game next week Sunrise Mountain (5-1) takes on North, and Peoria (2-4) will go up against Dysart in a III Section II game.
