Basketball Game Preview: Rio Mesa Spartans vs. Portola Bulldogs

The Rio Mesa Spartans will take on the Portola Bulldogs in a tournament on Thursday. Rio Mesa has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 200 points over their last three contests.

Last Saturday, Rio Mesa came up short against Viewpoint and fell 65-58. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while the Patriots are ranked 112th).

Meanwhile, Portola didn't have quite enough to beat Beckman on Thursday and fell 63-61. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now lost three in a row.

Portola's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Rio Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
