Preview: Northwest Rankin Cougars vs. Pearl Pirates
Northwest Rankin is 8-2 against Pearl since November of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Both teams will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Northwest Rankin won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were dealt a 64-30 loss at the hands of Meridian. While losing is never fun, Northwest Rankin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Meridian is ranked 19th).
Meanwhile, Pearl pushed their score all the way to 61 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brandon.
Northwest Rankin's loss dropped their record down to 10-18. As for Pearl, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-11 record this season.
Northwest Rankin and Pearl were neck-and-neck when the teams last played two weeks ago, but Northwest Rankin came up empty-handed after a 55-54 loss. Can Northwest Rankin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
