South Carolina's Worley has 5 TD quarter

Peake injured, Lineberger wins 200th game, big Friday night ahead.

Northwestern (Rock Hill) quarterback Justin Worley put up an incredible quarter in the nationally televised game against rival South Pointe (Rock Hill) on Saturday, tossing five touchdown passes in less than five minutes during the third quarter and turning a deficit into a lead that wasn't touched by the Stallions.

The Trojans quarterback, who has verbally committed to Tennessee, finished the game with 314 passing yards on 23 of 33 passing. In the third quarter alone, he threw for 251 yards.

"Incredible," Northwestern coach Jimmy Wallace said. "I don't know what more you can do."

Northwestern won the game 42-20 and this week it hosts York.

Here are some more tidbits concerning South Carolina football:

2. One day after he scored two touchdowns in a win over rival Stratford (Goose Creek), Berkeley (Moncks Corner) player D.J. Weathers died in a single-car crash on Saturday afternoon, according to the Berkeley Independent.

Weathers is the second South Carolina player to die this season, after Lewisville (Richburg) running back Brian Colvin died after collapsing on the field on Aug. 13.

Weathers, a junior, caught touchdown passes of 26 and 20 yards in the 40-14 win. The paper reported that the accident took place at 3 p.m. when the car Weathers was driving left the road and hit a power pole. He wasn't wearing a seat belt, the paper reported.

3. Dorman (Roebuck) wide receiver Charone Peake tweaked his ankle Friday night in the Cavaliers' opening-game, 21-12 victory at Gaffney. Peake, the No. 7 ranked receiver in the nation by MaxPreps, sprained his ankle in the first half.

According to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, Peake had the ankle taped and was on the field in the second half testing his ability to move.

"They told us that if we had to, if it was an emergency, we could go to him," coach Dave Gutshall told the paper. "… I hope he'll be ready to go by ... Friday."

4. A 911 caller who threatened to blow up the football stadium in which Hanahan and Timberland (St. Stephen) were playing in Friday night caused the conclusion of the game to be delayed.

According to the Charleston Post and Courier, Timberland led 21-7 with 8:48 left in the third quarter when play was stopped. The stands were evacuated so deputies could sweep the area for explosive devices, the paper reported.
The game was finished on Saturday afternoon, when Timberland had to hold off a rally to win 28-21.

5. Johnsonville coach Lewis Lineberger received congratulatory e-mails from across the Carolinas and from across the globe after winning his 200th game on Friday.

Lineberger, who's in his sixth season at Johnsonville after a long career at Hartsville, guided the Flashes to a 21-7 win over Hannah-Pamplico (Pamplico). It prompted former players to contact him, including one who is serving in Iraq.

"It's good when they say you've had a positive effect on their life," Lineberger said. "Wins are important, but helping young men be productive citizens is more important."

He becomes the second coach to reach the milestone, after Dillon's Jackie Hayes did it last week.

STARS FROM LAST WEEK
Myrtle Beach quarterback Everett Golson helped three receivers surpass 100 receiving yards as he went 18 of 22 for 302 yards with four touchdown passes. He also ran for a score from 22 yards out in the 63-6 rout of Carolina Forest (Myrtle Beach). ... Lake City two-sport standout Shon Carson finished with 169 yards and five touchdowns (all in the first half) on 15 carries in the team's 62-0 win over Lee Central (Bishopville). ... Berkeley quarterback Tevin Bradshaw helped the Stags to a 40-14 win over Stratford. He was 4 of 4 passing for 108 yards and three touchdowns (24, 26 and 20 yards) and ran for 101 yards on 17 carries. ... Landrum quarterback Brandon Cannon accumulated four touchdowns in the team's 36-9 win over Travelers Rest. He ran for two scores (10 and 22 yards) and threw for two others (47 and 6 yards). He finished with 132 rushing yards and 169 passing yards.

ON DECK THIS WEEK
Clinton at Woodruff: The Wolverines have won the past two contests in this rivalry between two of the most decorated programs in the state. Those wins came after 12 straight losses to the Red Devils.

Spartanburg at Dorman: The City Championship has been a little one-sided in recent years as the Cavaliers have topped the Vikings in 10 of the last 13 games. Still, the Vikings hold a 38-15 advantage in the rivalry.

Byrnes (Duncan) at Myrtle Beach: The Rebels have won both games in the series - the 1982 state title game and last season - but are coming off being shut out on ESPN. Myrtle Beach rolled in its opener and may have the more powerful offense this season.

Berkeley at Summerville: The Stags are coming off an emotional weekend - winning their opener and then the loss of a teammate - and will try to use that as motivation against the rival Green Wave. Summerville had a lopsided opening win and is trying to win a fifth straight against Berkeley.
