Basketball Recap: Wings Academy Comes Up Short

If Wings Academy was riding high fresh off their 80-52 takedown of Bowne last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wings Academy Wings fell to the Sankofa Freedom Academy Warriors 65-59. The Wings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

Defeat or not, Wings Academy got some senior leadership from Rushawn Greene and Kamrin Kendall. Greene dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists, while Kendall dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kendall has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Emmanuel Nieves, who posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Wings Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in four consecutive contests.

Asim Hardy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sankofa Freedom Academy, going 9 of 12 on his way to 25 points. Those 25 points gave Hardy a new career-high. Nafis Dubose was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine boards.

Wings Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Sankofa Freedom Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Wings Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 74-51 loss against Brandeis on the 28th. Sankofa Freedom Academy has also already played their next match, a 72-53 defeat against Samuel Fels on the 27th.
