Softball Game Preview: Triton Hawks vs. Cape Fear Colts

Triton is 0-5 against Cape Fear since March of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Triton Hawks will challenge the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Triton sitting on seven straight wins and Cape Fear on eight.

On Tuesday, everything went Triton's way against Terry Sanford as Triton made off with a 19-1 victory. That looming 19-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hawks yet this season.

Meanwhile, Cape Fear got the win against Jack Britt on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won seven games by eight runs or more so far this season.

McKinley Kolasa made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Cape Fear got a big performance out of Addy Davis, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Amari Adams was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Cape Fear kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Triton's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Cape Fear, their record now sits at 8-0.

Triton suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Cape Fear in their previous matchup back in February. Can Triton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
