Baseball Game Preview: Washington County Commanders vs. Adair County Indians

The Washington County Commanders will head out on the road to challenge the Adair County Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Washington County will be strutting in after a win while Adair County will be coming in after a defeat.

Washington County barely beat Bardstown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Commanders put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 9-1 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Commanders in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.

Lance Coulter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dylan Mattingly was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Taylor, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Washington County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Adair County fell victim to Taylor County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to the Cardinals. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Indians' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Washington County's record is now 9-12. As for Adair County, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Washington County came up short against Adair County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 11-8. Can the Commanders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
