Recap: South Texas Christian Academy Panthers vs. South Lancaster Academy Crusaders
The South Texas Christian Academy Panthers pushed their score all the way to 56 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-56 to South Lancaster Academy. While losing is never fun, South Texas Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 1436th in Texas, while South Lancaster Academy is ranked 194th in Massachusetts).
Despite the loss, South Texas Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Carlos Saenz, who scored 29 points along with three steals. That was a full 51.8% of South Texas Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Gabriel Armenta was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten assists and five steals.
South Texas Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for South Lancaster Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-3.
South Texas Christian Academy on the road again on Monday and play against Juan Diego Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th. Juan Diego Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for South Lancaster Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Immaculate Heart of Mary at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Immaculate Heart of Mary comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
