Preview: Monsignor Pace Spartans vs. Booker T. Washington Tornadoes
Monsignor Pace and Booker T. Washington are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. The Monsignor Pace Spartans will face off against the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes at TBD on Saturday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Monsignor Pace rose to the challenge on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Knights 48-45.
Monsignor Pace had a senior duo take command as Jabari Dukes dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds and Justin Bridges scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Moshe, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Booker T. Washington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came out on top against Westland Hialeah by a score of 44-37. Winning is a bit easier when you make six more threes than your opponent, as Booker T. Washington did.
Booker T. Washington had a senior duo take command as Leroy Lee Jr scored 16 points and Jahmal David scored 16 points. Armani Horton was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Monsignor Pace's victory bumped their record up to 15-11. As for Booker T. Washington, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season.
Monsignor Pace came up short against Booker T. Washington when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 48-43. Can Monsignor Pace avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
