Soccer Game Preview: Derryfield vs. Belmont

The Derryfield Cougars will head out to square off against the Belmont Red Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Derryfield is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to eight goals last Wednesday, they were much more limited against Prospect Mountain on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 1-0. Derryfield haven't had much luck with Prospect Mountain recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Meanwhile, Belmont faced Berlin in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Red Raiders and the Mountaineers finished up their game with a 2-2 draw. The result (or lack thereof) marked Belmont's first draw of the season.

Derryfield's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2-1. Belmont's draw gives them a new season record of 5-0-1.

Derryfield skirted past Belmont 1-0 when the teams last played back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
